Girls once again outsmarted boys by winning 23 out of 38 gold medals at the Patna University(PU) annual Convocation held at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall here on Sunday. The 38 toppers of post Graduate Degree Programmes, Post Graduate Diploma Programmes and Ph.D. in all the Faculties were Awarded gold medals by Ex-President Pranab Mukherjee and governor -cum-chancellor Satya Pal Malik.

More than 1,800 students, who passed their postgraduate exams of 2017 were conferred upon the coveted degrees. While former President Pranab Mukherjee was the chief Guest and delivered the convocation address, governor -cum-chancellor Lalji Tandon presided over the function. Education minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma was the guest of honour. PU Vice Chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh awarded degrees to the students.

On the occasion, former President Pranab Mukherjee remembered PU’s glorious history. He said that “A few years ago I came here”. On the other hand, former President Pranab Mukherjee, who attended the convocation, welcomed Shobha Yatra of students.

He said, “The Challenges before you are compounded by the fact that eastern India, whose fertile land once cradled civilizations, shaped empires and led the world economy till the mid-18th century faced a downslide during the last century.

Today, I can say with confidence that Bihar, as indeed entire eastern India, is on the cusp of an agricultural and industrial revolution. It is you who are going to be leading India’s growth story for the next century.”

In the Convocation, VC Rasbihari Singh said that “Patna University is going through the transition. These are three challenges for academic, regular examination session and stop students’ exclusion. He said that we are trying to fight these three challenges. He said that getting good placement in NAAC evaluation is our priority.

We will start enrolling research students soon. Research Council has also constituted for research work. VC said that PU talks with MOU to China and Nepal universities. Soon MOU will be signed for the research work. In March, a PU student will go to Africa. That mountain will go to Fatah.

Dean of the Patna University  Patna (Student Welfare) Prof. NK Jha said that, In the convocation ceremony, post graduation (PG), MBA and doctorate PhD passed between 1 January to 31 December in the year 2017 were given degrees to more than 1800 students. In order to get the degree, 943 students had registered, including 54 students of PhD.
