Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISC-Bangalore) in their quest to raise the number of foreign students has decided to provide an online single window platform to all the foreign students who wish to apply for 600 masters and doctorate courses to be offered from the academic year 2020. Through this platform they wish to serve a convenient interface by which the students can view and apply to various programmes simultaneously.
Director, IIT-Bombay has briefed in a recent press release that doing so will not only fetch a good pool of foreign students but also bring opportunities in terms of ease of doing business. He told that Indian Institutes generally have a low pool of foreign students due to which the global ranking of the institutes gets affected. In order to bridge the gap, the institutes should collectively bring new reforms to attract more inclusive education system. This system will make research more cohesive and the programmes so offered would generate a good amount of foreign revenue.
The select committee would also review the progress with the help of certain key indicators which include: ease of admissions, fellowships, internships and student exchange programs. Applicants will be informed of their selection through the portal and hence they can accept any one offer. Later on, they can proceed with other formalities of entry into the country. This will more benefit the students from south Asian countries who can enrol themselves to these international institutions at lower tuition fee as compared to other international campuses. With the ease of admissions, the students can also apply for scholarships in tuition and hostel fee.
This holistic approach in future will also generate employment opportunities for these international students who can easily secure teaching or research-based jobs within the country. This program will also help our institutes to get global recognition in terms of better revenue, world-class infrastructure, diverse campus and top rankings.
