40 times more applications for govt schools admission

Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday said the state’s Swami
Atmanand English Medium Schools have received more applications than
the number of seats available for admissions within just one week.

“Our Swami Atmanand English medium schools are attracting more
students. These schools have received applications almost 40 times of the
actual number of seats available. Schools are adopting a lottery system to
allot seats,” school education principal secretary Dr Alok Shukla said

In view of the growing demand, he said the state government had
increased the number of seats in English medium schools to 50 each, still
the number of applications pouring in are way more than the number of
seats available.

He said the RD Tiwari English School has received 2460 applications, Shaheed Smarak English School has received 1779 applications and BP Pujari School has received 1051 application forms for admission.

This is an indication how people are preferring government run Swami Atmanand English Medium Schools over private English Schools for education, he added.

Swami Atmanand English Schools were established in Raipur two years ago with an aim to provide quality education to the children from economically and socially weaker sections of the society.

There are 171 Swami Atmanand English medium schools and later Hindi medium schools were also introduced following demand from the people.
