Teachers and non-teaching employees of Assam University, Silchar, a central varsity, have decided to donate their one day’s salary for the cause of the welfare of the kin of the CRPF personnel who were martyred in Pulwama in a terrorist attack last week.
AU registrar Sanjeev Bhattacharjee said this was unanimously decided during a condolence meeting held in the varsity, which was chaired by vice-chancellor Ranju Rani Dhamala. The AU community has also decided to extend full their support to take on the militants responsible for the massacre.
Meanwhile, Silchar-based cultural organization ‘Verse-pe-verse’, in a bid to stand in solidarity with the fallen jawans, has also decided to contribute to the fund for the welfare of the kin of the martyrs.
The group announced that it will donate 100% of the gate revenue that it would earn from ticket sales of ‘Karwaan 3.0’ to the National Defence Fund. Karwaan, a popular open mic event now in its third edition, is scheduled to take place on February 22 in Silchar, said the founder of ‘Verse-pe-verse’, Hrijoy Das Kanungo, and its president Jnanendra Das.
