On Tuesday, a review meeting was held in NITI Aayog, New Delhi with regards to granting All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) status to BHU IMS (Institute of Medical Science). In this meeting, discussions pertaining to the administrative structure & expenditure control after attaining AIIMS-esque facilities & services were undertaken, as after the implementation of this arrangement, the Ministry of Health, Govt. of India, will provide funding to BHI IMS.
To finalize this episode, the PMO team will arrive at BHU on June 9. The final report will be presented to the Prime Minister on June 15 for signing.
Presently, institutes under BHU IMS such as Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Ayurveda Wing, Dental Clinic & Trauma Center receive funding from UGC. Under this, the maximum fund has increased to Rs 2 lakh per bed. Only the Ministry of Health has the authority to channel more funding. Even PM Narendra Modi desires that the people of Puravchal and Bihar have access to better treatment at low to no cost.
With regards to this, the Prime Minister’s Office has called upon the officers for a complete report. Under this, Vice Chancellor Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar and SS Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. OP Upadhyay reached New Delhi. The meeting was held in the Ministry of Health & the PMO that day. After the meeting, a review was held on Tuesday in NITI Aayog.
The Ministry of Health wishes to ensure that the funding allocated towards a certain use is used for that very agenda, instead of being used arbitrarily. However, the Ministry has set this condition on the basis of secret report of BHU’s activities. It is expected that the direct benefit of this condition will be to the patients and for dissuading corruption.
