Due to the uncertainty over reopening of university campuses
and holding written examinations, the Faculty Council for Post Graduate
studies in Engineering and Technology of Calcutta University has decided
to hold the terminal semester examinations for BTech and MTech in
electronic mode. Students will be evaluated based on projects, seminar
attendance and performance, viva voce, end-semester interview, online
interaction, assignments, teacher assessment and laboratory
performance. Modalities have also been fixed about backlog papers.
On June 3, a resolution was adopted by the council that was given a goahead by VC Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee. “We have fixed the modalities
of final semester, which will be held in July in all branches of BTech and
MTech courses in engineering and technology department,” she said.
“For benefit of students, it has been resolved that due to Covid-19 pandemic situation, all examinations will be conducted in electronic mode after assuring the participation of all students,” said Chakravarti Banerjee.
There will be three categories of papers. “In first category, each department will ask students to submit a project or seminar report and presentation by email before seven days of exam. Arrangements will be made for interview part of projects, seminars or viva voce by video conferencing or telephonic conversation,” said the VC. For second category with theoretical papers, marks will be distributed as follows — 40% from end-semester interview or online interaction or end-semester assignment, 30% from teacher assessment and the remaining 30% from mid-semester examination. For practical, 50% marks will be distributed from day-to-day lab performance and 50% from end-semester interview/assignment
