On the occasion of ‘Bhoogol Diwas’ on 25th April, 2018, One day symposium on “Environment Degradation : Issues and Challenges” was organized in the Department of Geography, Patna University, patna as a part of Patna University Centenary Year Celebration. The Programme was started with the welcome address by Prof. Usha Verma, convenor and Head of Department. Chief Guest Prof. H.N. Mishra. Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Geography, University of Allahabad delivered inaugural speech on environmental sustainability and emphasised the use of resources in accordance with various components of environment for future sustainability.
Prof. A. K. Ghosh, Director, Bihar State Control Board, Patna was the chief speaker who emphasised on the recent aspects of environment degradation including reckless use of plastics and bio – medical waste. The inaugural session was also marked by release of couple of books written by Prof. MM P Sinha and Dr. Seema Bala. The title of the books were ‘Rural -Urban Fringe – A Case Study of Patna’ and Nagreya Bhoogol in Hindi. The inaugural session was concluded with felicitation programme of Prof. R.B. Singh, Dept. of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi as a respect and- honour for his being elected as Secretary General of International Geographical Union (IGU) for 2018-22.
The Programme was also addressed by Prof. RBP Singh, Vice Chancellor, P.U. , Prof. Dolly Sinha, Pro Vice Chancellor, P.U. , Prof. R.B. Singh, University of Delhi,Prof. Nupur Bose, Department of Geography, A N College, Patna and Dr. Mehta Nagendra Singh. Prof. Sudeepta Adhikan, Ex Vice-Chancellor, P.U.
All the teachers of the department and various colleges of Patna University, Schools and students actively participated in the programme. Vote of Thanks were proposed by Prof. RK Sharma in the inaugural session and Prof. Md. Nazim in the 2nd Technical session and the programme was conducted by Prof. Anuradha Sahay.
