Gujarat Schools Reopening decision for classes 1 to 9 expected on February 5, online classes till then
Gujarat Schools Reopening decision can be expected soon and most likely on February 5, 2022. Till then, online classes would continue for students of classes 1 to 9 and announcement will be shared by the state government after reviewing the COVID-19 cuatutions in the state. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in a meeting announced the decision of continuing the online classes for now.
Schools in Gujarat were closed following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state to curb the spread of virus and protect children. As the situation in the state is improving now, the state government can consider reopening schools, the final decision will be announced on February 5.
However, considering the other states’ COVID-19 cases, Gujarat is still at a high tally but the numbers are decreasing which is an improvement indicator. Alongside, the state is conducting vaccination programmes throughout and is vaccinating children of 15 to 18 years of age group.
On Monday, Gujarat recorded 6,679 COVID-19 cases, the lowest since January 10, taking the tally in the state to 11,60,659, as per the state health department.
Schools and educational institutions are now reopening after being shut for a very long period of time due to COVID-19. This is to be reiterated, schools were closed during first wave of COVID-19 pandemic and after almost 2 years of closure, they were finally expected to reopen this year but as the Omicron infection started spreading rapidly and caseload increased very much, governments decided to shut schools again.
These closures are not very much in favour of students as many reports conducted by various organisations and surveys have found that students’ overall development is getting halted due to online classes. This is also one of the reasons that state governments are not planning to reopen schools and get life back to normalcy.
