In the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), one of the most prestigious business schools in the country, many posts of teachers are vacant and in order to fill these posts, the institute is having trouble finding candidates with the right talent. The fixed ratio of a full-time faculty has not been completed for every 10 students in any of the country’s IIMs.

Educationists say that the main reason for the lack of teachers in the IIM is the incident of ‘talent pool’ in the country. Youth PhD degree holders are seeking more salaried corporate jobs rather than teaching work. Apart from this, the teacher’s resignation rate in IIM is also high. This has led to the lack of teachers in all 20 IIM institutions in the country. .

Faculty-student ratio in IIM Indore is currently 1:15, while IIM Lucknow and Kozhikode have a faculty on 12 students. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Kolkata and IIM Bangalore have retained this ratio for the last two years at 11 and 12. Currently, IIM Ahmedabad has 97 full-time faculty members for 1,136 students. There are about 100 faculty members in Lucknow for 1,025 students and Indore for 1,500 students. This year, IIM Kozhikode is adding a new section of 60 students. With this, the total number of umbrellas will be approximately 800 in the institute, but the number of faculty is only 68.

Looking for faculty in the US-Europe University

Dean Rajan (Administration and Development) C. Raju, IIM Kozhikode said that IIMs in Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Bangalore are looking for young faculty in the US and Europe University. Those who have some experience with PhD degree are being searched for this. The faculty at IIM gets salary of 1.2 to 2.8 lakh rupees per month. To make education attractive, some grant on grants, articles published on IIM research and financial incentives etc. Young PhD holders prefer industry research rather than teaching, because they are offered more salary for this. .

After the year 2010 many new IIMs have been started. Among them, the student-teacher ratio is likely to get worse. However, some officials of IIM believe that the new IIM Act will help to overcome this problem as it has given more flexibility to attract and maintain faculty.
