A Ph.D. student from the IIT-B chemistry department, Jayeeta Saha, has been selected to represent India at Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting 2020 in Lindau, Germany, in June.
Saha, who works on electrocatalysis with nanomaterials at the institute, is excited to meet John B Goodenough, who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2019. The meeting brings together nearly 70 Nobel laureates for technical and non-technical interactions with over 600 young scientists and researchers. A statement by IIT-Bombay said the selected candidates are usually among the top 5% applicants.
“Academic background and recommendations are criteria to get selected,” said Saha. This year, two students from IIT-Gandhi Nagar and one from IISc Bangalore have been selected too. The event will be held from June 28 to July 3. The two-step selection process includes one from the Department of Science & Technology and then the selected students are scrutinized by Lindau Nobel Laureate Committee. “It is a very prestigious award and an opportunity to meet and discuss research with Nobel laureates from chemistry, physics, and physiology,” said Saha.
