IIT Mandi: Professor Laxmidhar Behera appointed as director, read more about the ex. IIT Kanpur professor.
Professor Laxmidhar Behera from the department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur has been appointed as the new director at IIT Mandi. The central government on Monday appointed him as IIT Mandi’s director and he will be succeeding Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi.
Professor Behera has completed his B.Sc and M.Sc in Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. He has further completed his Ph.D. from IIT Delhi and has done his post-doctoral studies in Evolutionary Computation and Multi-agent Systems from the German National Center for Information Technology.
Professor Laxmidhar Behera specialises in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. He heads the Intelligent Systems and Control (ISCON) Laboratory at IIT Kanpur and extensively focuses on developing automation solutions to industrial and domestic problems. The lab specialises in classical, modern, robust and intelligent control of robotic systems and is responsible for developing several industrial applications involving robotics, control and artificial intelligence.
ISCON Lab developed by Professor Behera has various division through which students can understand the use of robotics and artificial intelligence in several ways. Professor Behera has also developed courses for various universities. For IIT Kanpur, he has played a major role in developing the courses on Control of Cyber Physical Systems and Inteligent Systems and Control. Intelligent Systems and Control is also available at National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning. He has also developed Mobile Robotics and Cooperative Robotics for University of Ulster, U.K.
Professor Behera has guided 65 postgraduate students, 32 doctoral students and has headed 30 projects which have been completed. He has been citied over 2000 times and has a total of 307 publications, inclusive of books he has exclusively co-authored.
