Total of 90 students and staff from IIT Roorkee had tested Covid-positive within the last few days, IIT Roorkee media cell in-charge Sonika Srivastava informed on Thursday. Following this, IIT Roorkee was termed as a Covid-19 hotspot and the Haridwar District Health Department went on to seal five hostels — Coral, Kasturba, Sarojini, Govind Bhawan, and Vigyan Kunj. These were declared as containment zones. However, now, the numbers are slowly trickling down.
“The institute has about three thousand students, of which around 1,200 students live in these five hostels. At present, all students are being treated in hostels,” Sonika Srivastava has said on Thursday.
She had also informed that students who were planning to come to IIT Roorkee had been stopped and students already on the campus had been advised to take Covid-19 precautions.
On Saturday, Srivastava informed that two new Covid-positive students had been admitted to the Covid Care Centre in IIT Roorkee campus.
On Sunday, however, she said that no new corona-affected students had been found on the campus. Moreover, she added that the reports of all the students who had been residing in the Sarojini Bhawan hostel had been received and all of them had been found to be negative.
