Candidates who have completed BA/BSc Final Results and fulfill the eligibility conditions may apply for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses for the academic session 2018-19.

The admission tests begin by second week of June.

Eligibility Criteria for various streams

Candidates who fulfill the following conditions laid below may apply for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses at Jadavpur University for the academic session 2018-19.

  • A candidate who has appeared or due to appear in the B.A./B.Sc Final Year/Semester Examination 2018, within 31st May 2018 may also apply. Provided he/she fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria (laid down below) in Honours/Major papers in the earlier parts/semesters (PART I/ PART II examinations or semesters up to the Final semester) together.

For such a candidate, the latest available marks Honours/Major papers in semester system/ annual system of examination is considered for preparing the merit list.

Such a candidate, if provisionally selected for admission, shall have to produce a certificate in the prescribed format (click here) that his/her B.A/ B.Sc Final Examination has been completed on or before May 31, 2018, at the time of counselling/admission.

  • For any candidate, increase in marks due to post-publication review/scrutiny after the closing dates of application (01/06/2018) for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses at Jadavpur University for the academic session 2018-19, shall NOT happen, and his/her merit position shall NOT change.

Jadavpur University Admission: MA (Day) Courses

Bengali

3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in the subject or in Comparative Literature from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.

Comparative Literature

Category-I

A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in Comparative Literature with at least 40% marks, or, a three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in any literature subject with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/ OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers.

Category-II

A Bachelors degree* with a minimum of three years of formal instruction with Honours/Major/Specialization in any non- literature subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major/Specialization papers or a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelors degree*, with a minimum of three years of formal instruction.

Economics

3-Year B.A./B.Sc Honours degree* or Major in Economics from a recognised University with at least 60% marks (54% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 50% for Sports category and 45% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers and at least two papers/courses in Mathematics or Mathematical Economics.

(In case Honours/Major is NOT specified/ mentioned in the mark-sheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then his/her BA Degree will be considered to be equivalent to Major in Economics if he/she had studied course/ papers in Economics for at least 50% of total marks for the BA degree.)

Education

Category-I

3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in Education from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports./OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in the Honours papers.

Category-II

3-Year Honours/Major degree in any subject and a B.Ed degree with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in both degrees from any recognised University. (Among the 6 seats available for the category, 4 seats for Jadavpur University students and 2 seats for other University students. If all the seats are not filled up under category-II then remaining seats will be offered to candidates under category-I).

English

A Bachelors degree* with a minimum of three years of formal instruction with Honours/Major/Specialization in any subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major/Specialization papers or a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelors degree*, with a minimum of three years of formal instruction and with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC- A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category).

Film Studies

3-Year Honours degree or Major in Film Studies or any subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream or degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or such other recognised Bachelor degree.

History

3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in the History from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.

Linguistics

3-Year Honours degree* or Major in any literature or non- literature subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream with at least 45% marks (40% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B/SC/ST category) in Honours papers or degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelor degree.

Philosophy

3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in Philosophy from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.

(In case Honours/Major is NOT specified/ mentioned in the mark-sheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then his/her BA Degree will be considered to be equivalent to Honours in Philosophy if he/she had studied a BA degree course with at least 800 marks in aggregate, of which at least 50% marks in Philosophy.)

Political Science with International Relations

3-Year B.A. Honours degree* or Major in Political Science from a International recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for Relations: PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 41.25% for SC/ST category and 45% for Sports category) in Honours papers.

Sanskrit

3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in Sanskrit or Shastri from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category).

Sociology

3-Year B.A. Honours degree* or Major in Sociology from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers

Jadavpur University Admission: MA (Evening) Courses

Bengali

3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in the subject or in Comparative Literature from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.

Sanskrit
