Physical schools for classes 1-9 and 11 shut till January 31, online continues in Mumbai
All schools for standard 1 to 9 and junior colleges for class 11 will remain shut for offline classes in Mumbai till January 31. Only students from classes 10 and 12 will be allowed to attend physical schools/colleges, provided they have parental consent. All classes will continue in the online mode.
Physical schools for classes 8-12 had reopened in the city from October.
For students from classes 1-7, physical schools had started in midDecember after over 21 months since the March 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.
Educational institutions were to reopen after the winter vacations on
January 3. While schools and colleges on Monday reported fewer
students in physical classrooms, municipal commissioner I S Chahal on
Monday issued an order directing all classes from 1 to 9 and 11 to go fully
online. These classes were running in the hybrid mode.
Classes 10 and 12 can be held in the hybrid mode. Students with parental consent can attend school/college while the rest can continue to take classes online.
With the vaccination for the 15-18 age group beginning from Monday, the civic chief said that class 9 students, though cannot attend physical classes, can be called to the school for vaccination, if needed. Over 6.25 lakh students from class 9-12 are eligible for vaccination in the city
