The University of Lucknow has decided to introduce choicebased credit system (CBCS) in all its postgraduate programmes from the next academic session. More than 4,500 students will benefit from the decision, which was taken on Wednesday at a meeting of department heads and faculty deans with the vice chancellor. It will now be tabled before the academic council and executive council of LU for a formal approval.
Under CBCS, students will have the option to study intra-departmental elective courses and also massive open online courses (MOOCs). “The university already had the system in place in fine arts, MBA and some MSc courses, but now it has been extended to all PG departments including arts, commerce and law,” LU spokesperson Sanjay Medhavi said.
So far, choices of elective papers for MBA and MSc students were also limited, as they could select only from subjects taught in their own faculty. Now, they will have the option to choose from other faculties as well.
