TiHAN supports a Chair for Prof Srikanth Saripalli at IIT Hyderabad

As a young IIT established in 2008, IITH is a top-ranking institute among the Top 10 in the recent Ministry of Education’s ARIIA & NIRF rankings. It has a strong research focus with state-of-the-art labs, research and entrepreneurship centers, and students and faculty at the forefront of innovation. Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt of India, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS), has sanctioned the prestigious Technology Innovation Hub in the technology vertical of Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition systems (UAVs, RoVs etc) to IIT Hyderabad, Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation Foundation (TiHAN – IITH) has announced a Chair in the field of Autonomous Navigations at IIT Hyderabad (IITH). Prof Srikanth Saripalli (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University) has been chosen as the first appointee of the TiHAN Chair in Autonomous Navigations for a period of 3 years starting from   2022 at IITH. Prof Saripalli is being offered the TiHAN Chair in honor of his significant contributions to the field of Autonomous vehicles (ground as well as aerial vehicles), Connected Autonomy, and Sensors and applications.

Conveying her wishes on occasion, Prof P Rajalakshmi, Project Director, TiHAN, said, “We strongly believe that Prof Srikanth Saripalli’s expertise in the area of UAV and UGV will enhance TiHAN- IITH capabilities as a strong player in the technology development for next-generation mobility solutions.”

Expressing his delight in the endowment, Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said, “TiHAN is one of the unique Innovative initiatives of IITH, and since inception, it has taken many pathbreaking initiatives to promote innovation & entrepreneurship on the campus in autonomous navigation. I am sure many more Chairs will get established at IITH soon to keep realizing our motto of Inventing & Innovating in Technology for Humanity.”

About TiHAN:

Department of Science and Technology (DST), under National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), has sanctioned the prestigious Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) in the technology vertical of Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems (UAVs, ROVs, etc.). Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TiHAN) at IITH is a multi-departmental initiative, including researchers from Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Design, Entrepreneurship at IIT Hyderabad with collaboration and support from reputed institutions and industry.

As part of the project, we are setting up a first of its kind integrated testbed on Autonomous Navigations (Aerial/Terrestrial) on the IITH campus which has state of the art facilities such as Proving Grounds, Test tracks, Mechanical integration facilities like Hangers, Ground control stations, State of the art Simulation tools (SIL, MIL, HIL, VIL), Test tracks/circuits, Road Infra – Smart Poles, signalized & unsignalized Intersections, Environment Emulators like Rainfall Simulators, V2X Communications, Drone Runways & Landing area, Control Test center. TiHAN-IITH is envisaged as the destination for collaborative research for next-generation mobility solutions between academia, industry, and RnD Labs both national and international.
