Indian Institute of Management Ranchi was honoured to be a part of a prestigious conference organised by Times Group: ‘Times Samvaad’ held on October 23, 2019 celebrating 5 years of Jharkhand government’s achievements and initiatives at hotel BNR Chanakya, Ranchi. The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri. Raghubar Das and many other eminent personalities including the team of Times of India Group. The major topics of discussion were ‘Agriculture and Allied Sector’ and ‘Political Stability and Good Governance.’ 

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Keshav Pradhan – Resident Editor, The Times of India. The invitees consisted of prominent government officials, eminent researchers, speakers, industry experts as well as students from various institutions. This was followed by a key note address highlighting the accomplishments and journey so far in Jharkhand and how the government wishes to go ahead by distinguished Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, IAS, Principal Secretary to CM and IPRD,Jharkhand. Next on the list was the first panel discussion on ‘Agriculture and Allied sectors.’ The elite panel consisted of Dr. R. S. Kureel, VC Birsa Agricultural University (Jharkhand), Dr. B. S. Mahapatra, Professor at G. B. P. University of Agriculture and Technology (Pantnagar), Mr. Kaushlendra, Founder of Kaushalya Foundation and Mr. Siddharth Jaiswal, CEO & Secretary, Business Planning and Development, Birsa Agriculture University Society (Jharkhand) with Mr. Alokesh Bhattacharya, Editor, The Economic times moderating the discussion. Insights on agriculture growth, future plans to develop agriculture and strategies to engage youth in agriculture were the key points of discussion. The second panel discussion was on ‘Political Stability and Good Governance’ with the panel comprising of stalwart ministers namely Shri. Harivansh Ji, Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha, Shri. CP Sing, Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Transport (Jharkhand), Shri D.K Tiwari, Cheif Secretary (Jharkhand) and Prof. Arvind Mohan, Lucknow University and being moderated by Mrs. Sonali Das, Former Chief of Bureau, The Times of India. The major achievements and challenges faced by the present Jharkhand government and the road ahead for people of Jharkhand and Jharkhand as a state were the objectives of the discussion. 

The later part of the evening saw an enchanting One-on-One discussion with Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri. Raghubar Das being moderated by the highly knowledgeable Mr. Sudhir Mishra, Editor Nav Bharat Times. The students of IIM Ranchi got an opportunity to voice their opinions on issues pertaining to challenges, unmet potential of Jharkhand and on the future prospects. Shaurya Shaktiman, a first year student got the platform to have a one to one interaction with the Chief Minister on the scope of use of extension and collaborative farming in Jharkhand, for agricultural development. Prabhat Narula, a second year student also had a lively discussion on ‘Jharkhand’s potential to contribute to national GDP’ with Shri.Raghubar Das. The conference ended with felicitation of Hon’ble Chief Minister and all the distinguished panellist and a Vote of thanks by Mr. Dhanush Vir Singh, Associate VP and Branch Head, Times group (UP,UK and Bihar). 

The students of IIM Ranchi made optimal use of this wonderful opportunity presented and vowed to play a significant part as potential contributors not only in progress of Jharkhand, but the entire nation.
