The University of Hyderabad (UoH) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Hyderabad have entered into an MoU on 11th September 2020. The aim of this MoU is to stimulate and facilitate the development of collaborative teaching and mutually beneficial research activities which serve for technical upliftment of both institutions. 

The objectives of the MoU are:

1. To promote and enhance academic interaction between UoH and IITH.
2. To share and implement best practices for enhancing the quality of teaching, learning and research processes.
3. To conduct faculty development programmes for the benefit of both the Institutions. 
4. To provide technical support for the research scholars, faculty members and students to carry out the research work.
5. To undertake collaborative R&D work/R&D Projects.
6. To have joint publications arising out of collaborative work.
7. Facilitating combined project Investigators/Co-investigators for various National and International projects.

Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice Chancellor, UoH expressed happiness at UoH and IITH in formalizing this MoU and hoped that this collaboration will benefit both the Institutions. “UoH seeks to achieve the highest levels of distinction in the discovery &transmission of knowledge and is committed to working with IITH to bring this knowledge to combat the great challenges of the society”.

Outlining the benefit of the Academic & Research Pact with UoH, Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad said, “IITH had a wonderful journey in the last one decade and has established itself as a strong force in its teaching and research. UoH comes along with five decades of academic and research excellence. Through this MoU, both IITH and UoH will explore new avenues in the field of teaching and research through synergy to scale newer heights of excellence and will prove to be a winning quotient for the benefit of the society at large.”  

The MoU was signed by Prof. B. S. Murty, IITH and Shri P Sardar Singh, Registrar, UoH in the presence of VC, UoH and officials from both the institutions.

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is one of the six new Indian Institutes of Technology established by the Government of India in 2008. In a short span of 12 years, the institute built on an imposing 570-acre campus and has been ranked among the top ten institutes for four consecutive years in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The Institute was also ranked under Top #20 in the recent edition of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) introduced this year by MHRD to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development’ among students and faculties.

IIT Hyderabad has close to 221 full-time faculty, 2,855 students of whom 20 per cent are women, nearly 200 state-of-the-art laboratories and five research and entrepreneurship centres. The Institute has a strong research focus with more than Rs. 500 crore of sanctioned research funding while PhD scholars account for about 30 per cent of total student strength. IITH students and faculty are at the forefront of innovation with more than 1,500 research publications and patent disclosures, 300 sponsored/ consultancy projects and 50 industry collaborations. IITH has MoUs with 50 universities in the U.S., Japan, Australia, Taiwan and Europe. IITH has been a pioneering change in pedagogy with fractal academic programmes that atomizes course modules, encourage interdisciplinary learning, spanning innovative technology, fundamental science, liberal arts and creative arts like photography, theatre and painting.
