Delhi University student jumps from college building, dies


In a shocking incident, 20-year-old Delhi University student jumped from Zakir Husain college building on September 20, 2022. The student was immediately carried to the hospital by fellow students and college staff where she was declared dead. A suicide note has been recovered in which she hasn't blamed anyone for her death.

The police were informed about the incident on the same day at 8.09 pm. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said that a suicide note has been recovered from her pocket and that the spot has been inspected by the police. The police also investigated fellow students, friends, and family members so as to figure out if she was depressed. The student was studying in second year of BA (Honours) political Science and was a native of Haryana.  

Police are looking into the matter and are preparing a detailed report. The principal of Zakhir Husain College, Professor Narendra Singh said that the administration is waiting for a detailed report. He said, “The incident took place when the evening college was in session, so the police collected all the details from there itself.”

Mental Health Awareness at College

Talking about the requirement of mental health awareness at educational institiutions, the Zakhir Husain College principal said, “ We keep organising events related to mental health awareness but that will not be enough.” He further said that the college will try and will look forward to appointing permanent counsellors so that it can be easier for students to approach in case of need.
