If there is a problem with the teeth, then the patient has to go through painful and difficult situations during treatment and surgery. At present all the treatment equipment is manual. The instruments include pliers, forceps, burnisher, spoon excavator, dental drill, dental explorer and scaler.

Now, to reduce the suffering from that pain, for the first time in the world, a new device, mechanized power elevator, has been invented by Dr. Shashi Kumar, a doctor from Bihar. Dental surgeon Dr. Shashi Kumar, resident of Patna and practicing in Hajipur, said, he always had the idea of doing something new. The equipment available in the dental field is old fashioned. Talked to Dr. Karali Patra of Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Patna in 2021 to implement his vision. Later, apart from him, he formed a team with senior research fellow Akshay Saxena and moved forward in this direction. In 2023, there was success in making a new mechanized power elevator, the design patent of which was received in August 2023.

In the power elevator, the turbine will run with the help of wind, which generates energy and the motor installed in the equipment will operate. Air will be available with the help of pipes. Dr. Shashi said, work is going on at a fast pace on innovation of three-four other equipment related to dental surgery. A patent for the device will be applied for in October.

The invented mechanized power elevator helps the operator to easily reach the center of resistance of teeth and remove them with minimum damage to the surrounding structure. The tip of the instrument moves around, allowing more freedom to apply more pressure to the elevators in or on high areas in the mouth to easily remove the tooth. Powered elevators equipped with safety features such as anti-trap sensors and emergency stop buttons can enhance patient safety and prevent accidents during tooth extraction.

"The mechanized power elevator is an innovation in dental surgery. To my knowledge, there has been no such innovation in dental surgery equipment in the world. This will bring revolutionary changes in the field of dental surgery. In the coming time, it will make its place in every dental clinic in the world."Said Dr. Shashi Kumar, Innovator
