The Indian Institute of Management Jammu, under the leadership of Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu organized a high-impact session on Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) for its MBA students on 15th October 2025 at the Vivekananda/Agustya Hall. The session was delivered Mr. Vikas Khattar, Co-Head- Investment Banking and Head – ECM &, FSG Coverage at Ambit, and moderated by Prof. P. P. Maheshwari, Professor of Practice, IIM Jammu. The session offered a deep dive into the structure and dynamics of investment banking, particularly focusing on the equity capital market landscape. Also present was Dr. Praveen Kumar, faculty, IIM Jammu.

Drawing from his extensive experience in leading equity capital market transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and advisory mandates, Mr. Khattar, provided valuable insights into the end-to-end process of capital raising, valuation, and investor engagement. He elaborated on how ECM professionals play a pivotal role in bridging corporations with investors by structuring equity issuances such as IPOs, QIPs, and private placements. The discussion highlighted the critical interplay between financial strategy, market timing, and regulatory frameworks in successful capital market operations.

Students gained a practical understanding of how investment banking integrates analytical precision with strategic judgment, skills essential for navigating complex financial ecosystems. Mr. Khattar also underscored the ethical and fiduciary dimensions of capital markets, emphasizing integrity and transparency as the cornerstone of sustainable finance.

The initiative is part of IIM Jammu’s ongoing effort to strengthen its academic-industry interface and to integrate real-world exposure into its curriculum design, wherein up to 20 percent of course delivery is led by industry practitioners. Such engagements enable students to supplement their classroom learning with practical insights, preparing them to make informed decisions in the evolving financial landscape.
