The 12th convocation ceremony of IIM Ranchi for the batch of 2021-23 was held on Saturday, 1st July 2023, at Swami Vivekanand Auditorium, IIM Ranchi, Prabandhan Nagar, Nayasarai Road, Ranchi.
Shri Harivansh, Hon'ble Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the convocation address. The event had the Chairman and Members, Board of Governors, Director, Faculty, Staff, and the graduating students of IIM Ranchi. The convocation ceremony started with the Academic Procession, followed by Invocation.
Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Director, IIM Ranchi, delivered the welcome speech and presented a brief report about the institute.
Prof. Srivastava congratulated all the graduating students and advised them to begin incorporating sustainable practice into daily routines and cultivating a connection with the surrounding environment to promote a more sustainable way of living.
Prof. Srivastava shed light on the various initiatives undertaken by IIM Ranchi in recent years. These initiatives included the Mann ki Baat research initiatives, a scholarship program for underprivileged students, AASCB accreditation, the Young Changemaker's program, and the introduction of a mandatory course on learning about Tribal affairs. Other notable initiatives included the Human Connect initiative, which focused on promoting mental well-being, the inauguration of a community library at Ranchi Airport, and the MGNF Skill Conclave.
Prof. Srivastava also underscored IIM Ranchi's commitment to academic excellence by mentioning the comprehensive changes made to its various courses. These changes involved the creation of a new liberal arts area and a renewed emphasis on strategic management and entrepreneurship.
Shri Praveen Shankar Pandya, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Ranchi while addressing the graduates, highlighted the institution's remarkable progress over the years, with each batch surpassing the previous one, leading to continuous improvement in quality. He emphasized the vital role that IIMs play in shaping the leaders of tomorrow and encouraged the students to be more sensitive to environmental issues and contribute actively towards sustainability and global challenges.
The chairman further urged the students to seize the abundant opportunities presented by India's rapid development and emerging economy. He emphasized how, despite limited resources, India has built a great nation and even outperformed many developed nations. He also stressed the significance of rural development in the progress of the nation, encouraging the students to create an environment that fosters growth and success for those living in rural areas.
Shri Harivansh, Hon'ble Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, congratulated the graduating batch for having achieved this transformative milestone, achieved with dedication, intellect and perseverance. He spoke of the importance of Youth Led Development in our nation, emphasising how this was a generation of job creators and providers, and not one of job seekers.
Citing excerpts from the Taittiriya Upanishad that spoke of the final advice from Acharya to Vidhyarthi as well as motivational quotes from eminent personalities like Steve Jobs, JK Rowling, and Sheryl Sandberg, he then moved on to the stature of IIMs, its vast and brilliant alumni network, the pioneering nature of its educational system, and IIM Ranchi’s commitment to holistic development and innovation. He emphasised on the impact of the “Mann ki Baat” and “Human Connect Initiative”, as well as the compulsory courses on “Tribes of India” in nurturing well-rounded individuals with an understanding of cultural heritage and inclusivity, while also preparing them to thrive and navigate through the complexities of the current technological era driven by Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Robotics and so on.
The Hon'ble Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha then took to exploring the disruptors of the concept of the world - the changing cultural norms, increasing complexity of the global market, the rise of Artificial Intelligence, the evolving political landscape, revolutionising healthcare and shaping society’s future. He then concluded his speech by reciting a very thought provoking piece of poetry encouraging the cohort to focus on being good people and doing good for the society.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of Memento to the Chief Guest, and the National Anthem.
