IIT Hyderabad ascends to Global Rank 664 in QS World University Rankings 2026, Demonstrating Notable Research Excellence and Impact


 Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) continues its ascent in the global academic landscape with an improved position in the QS World University Rankings 2026, securing a unique global rank of 664. This marks a significant rise from last year’s position in the 681–690 band, reaffirming IITH’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and global impact. Most notably, IITH secures a place in the Top 10 % of global institutions in Citations per faculty. This metric, which evaluates research influence, has seen the highest growth among all evaluated indicators, showcasing the increasing global recognition of IITH faculty contributions.

Prof B S Murty, Director of IITH, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, "This improvement particularly reflects our strong focus on impactful and interdisciplinary research, which is gaining worldwide recognition. Our QS rank is a testament to the collective efforts of our faculty, researchers, and students. We are proud to represent India on the global academic map and are committed to pushing the boundaries further.”

Over the past three years, IIT Hyderabad has consistently improved its global standing in the QS World University Rankings. In the 2026 edition, IITH secured the 17th position nationally and achieved a unique global rank of 664 with an overall score of 26.4. This marks a substantial rise from the 681–690 band in 2025 and the 691–700 band in 2024.

A key highlight of this year’s performance is the significant improvement in the ‘Citations per Faculty’ metric, which surged to an impressive 84 in 2026 from 71.1 in 2025 and 64.3 in 2024. This reflects the increasing global impact of the Institute’s research output. Additionally, IITH’s Academic Reputation score has also seen a steady rise, moving from 5.1 in 2024 to 6.2 in 2025 and further to 10.3 in 2026, underscoring the Institute’s growing recognition in the global academic community.

The consistent upward trajectory in global rankings underscores IITH’s vision to become a globally recognised innovation-driven institute, firmly rooted in academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and international collaboration.
