Born on September 9, 1987, in Bihar, Tathagat Avatar Tulsi is a child prodigy and a well-known physicist. Tulsi completed schooling when he was just 9, earned a BSc degree when he was 11-year-old and completed MSc at the age of 12 from Patna Science College. After completing his MSc, Tathaghat Avatar Tulsi went to Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and completed his PhD in 2009 at the age of 21 years. In July 2010, IIT-Mumbai offered his a position as Assistant Professor on contract (a non-permanent teaching position for fresh PhD graduates). Tulsi was however sacked from the post in 2019 and according to him, the institute decided to terminate his employment after he took a long leave due to illness.

When Tulsi went to IISC for his PhD program at the age of 17, the then dean of the physics department called him as a "good boy, very lovable and working to achieve his goals". Tulsi grabbed headlines in 2001 when the Indian government shortlisted him to participate in a Nobel laureates conference in Germany.[8]

Tulsi’s PhD thesis was on "Generalizations of the Quantum Search Algorithm". He co-authored an unpublished research manuscript ("A New Algorithm for Fixed-point Quantum Search") with Lov Grover.

Tulsi was once dubbed as one of the most gifted Asian youngsters by TIME magazine. He was called a "Superteen" by Science, "Physics Prodigy" by The TIMES, "Master Mind" by The WEEK. Tulsi’s story was also shown by National Geographic Channel in the programme My Brilliant Brain on 13 December 2007.
